The Diabetes Scholars Foundation’s college scholarship program is available to incoming freshmen seeking a higher education at an accredited four year university, college, technical or trade school. This scholarship recognizes students who have high academic performance, are actively involved in the diabetes community, participate in community and/or extra-curricular activities and who have demonstrated that they are successfully managing the challenges of living with diabetes. Diabetes Scholars Foundation scholarships are not based on financial need.

Eligibility

 

  • High School Seniors with Type 1 diabetes seeking a higher education at an accredited four year university, college, technical or trade school.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Scholarship Awards:  

The following scholarships will be awarded to students who are high school seniors and will be incoming freshmen in the fall and who have Type 1 diabetes:

      • The Lilly Diabetes Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship – eleven scholarships at $5,000 each, five scholarships at $4,000 each and five scholarships at $3,000 each will be awarded to students that will be incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes
      • Novo Nordisk Scholarship – five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students that will be incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes
      • Jay Cutler Athletic Scholarship – two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to a student that will be an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and will be playing a competitive sport in college.  In honor of the Jackie Robinson West Little League Team, one $7,500 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and playing college basketball and one $7,500 scholarship to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and playing college softball
      • Type 1 for 66 years – two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded randomly to an incoming freshmen Type 1 diabetes
      • The Jay Franke Scholarship – two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and  pursuing an Arts Degree (music, theatre, dance)
      • David’s Diabetes Scholarship – one $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes from Horry County, South Carolina
      • Kara Podjasek Nursing Scholarship – one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and  pursuing a Nursing Degree
      • The Bradley D. Gendron Memorial Scholarship – one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes residing in Colorado
      • The Josh Smith Memorial Scholarship – one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and residing in Ohio
      • The Nicky Randazzo Memorial Scholarship – one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and majoring in Business
      • Gaspari Science Scholarship – one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes and pursing a science major (pre-med, biology, chemistry etc.)
Award Announcements

      • The recipients of the 2015 scholarships will be telephoned by June 1, 2015. Those applicants not selected will not receive any other notification
      • Checks will be distributed directly to the school in July once it’s been verified that the recipients have been accepted and registered to an accredited four year university, college, technical or trade school
