About the Diabetes Scholars Foundation

dsf_logo_smallThe Diabetes Scholars Foundation is a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Federal Tax ID is 35-2243334.

Our vision is to empower success through education for people living with Type 1 diabetes.  The mission of Diabetes Scholars Foundation is to support activities related to education for and about children with diabetes. This includes but is not limited to funding scholarships for diabetes education conferences and higher education.

Since 2004, we have awarded scholarships for  almost 3,000 people to attend the annual Children with Diabetes Friends for Life Conference. These families would otherwise be unable to attend because of financial reasons. The impact a conference has on these families is both immediate and significant. Comments from past recipients have been “this was life changing” and “we feel like we are part of a new family”.

A cornerstone endeavor of the Diabetes Scholars Foundation is its student scholarship program. Ours is the only foundation that funds college scholarships for which only students in the United States with Type 1 Diabetes are eligible. Our founders’ goal was that – in this one small area of life – diabetes could be an advantage. Since 2008 the Foundation has awarded almost $900,000 in college scholarships to students with Type 1, through scholarships of $5,000 each.

Our activities are supported through the generous donations of corporations and individuals.
